Oneironautics, one of the first to talk about it was, in the 1980s, Paul Tholey, a German psychologist who described what lucid dreams listing its characteristics. When you do you have the impression of being able to orient oneself, to be able to decide and to remember, to have full awareness of what surrounds us, to be aware of the meanings of what is happening. And of being able to exercise wills.
Onironautica: meaning
Oneironautics is a word created especially for by the psychiatrist Frederik van Eeden to give a name to that occasion in which you dream and become aware that you are doing it. That's why we talk about lucid dream (lucid dream, in English). The subject is said oneironaut and is lucky enough to be able to explore e modify your dream as you like.
Oneironautics is not new, it has been talked about since the days of ancient Greek philosophers and also in shamanic traditions we find similar concepts. Over time, faced with numerous experiences with similar characteristics, scholars and sleep enthusiasts have decided to baptize conscious dreamers with a name of their own and to dream them?
In fact, it is not a subjective experience but an analysable and concrete fact, a behavior of the brain well observable and also linked to false awakenings and out-of-body experiences.
Oneironautics: techniques
To practice onironautics there are some techniques, at least to try to practice it because it is not for everyone the ability to experience lucid dreaming. We dream and we know that we are dreaming, we do not stop doing it and we continue to live our dream interacting in a conscious way.
The most widespread and "simple" technique is night diary used as a gimmick to focus on waking consciousness. We start by drawing and identifying recurring symbols to become familiar with our dreams and feel more and more at ease in them. Another trick is to enhance the REM phase, sleeping at regular times, away from meals, concentrating sleep in a single time, not sowing small naps within 24 hours.
The most effective technique, however, to date, is the "Reality test" that is, asking ourselves as many times as possible whether what we are experiencing is really reality. When it comes to us automatically, then we also do it in dreams and we too will become gods experimenters of oneironautics.
Onironautica: books
Interesting reading, for when we don't dream, is the book "The art of living dreams. How to become a lucid dreamer ”. It is not a real technical guide but he collects many tips to help us not to just dream but to awaken the conscience in dreams and continue to live within them with maximum awareness, touching, listening, seeing, as if we were awake.
Onironautica: experiences
To listen experiences of oneironautics it seems they are plots of science fiction or fantasy films, yet the dream is an integral part of life of a person, we sleep for at least a third of our life, in these hours many potentials "hover", many uncomfortable truths, many psychological keys.
For this reason, oneironautics reveals numerous characteristics both of the person who has lucid dreams and of the human being in general, expands the overview of human psychology to which we have access by completing it with that part that, when we are awake, remains hidden.
Oneironautics: psychology
With the oneironautics, we specify, you don't want to mix dream and reality or bring the surface self into dreams. It doesn't have to be a replacement or a switch but an extension. Thanks to lucid dreams in fact we can get to know each other better, penetrate into our unacknowledged part, connect some inner knots and untie them, leaving them more serene. The ideal - it would be a dream - is to be able to navigate without interruptions between all states of consciousness: wakefulness, sleep, dream. There are also substances contained in some particular plants, which can help us enter states of altered consciousness, one of them is the Calea Zacatechichi
