How to clean displaysof smartphones, computers, notebooks, TVs… tips for cleaning the touch screen, with plasma or LCD technology.

THEdisplay, be they the classicscomputer monitoror those of a more advanced television, must be treated with caution. The display it should be bright and clean to be able to return sharp images but onecleaninginadequate could generate halos, streaks or even worse ... scratches!
Until a few years ago, televisions and computers were made up of very thick screens and sturdy materials. Cleaning them was much easier. Today, thesmartphone, tablet and computer displaythey are made from different materials layered together. Each layer has its function and each layer can be damaged by superficial cleaning.
There are three important rules to follow when you want clean a display:
- never use rough cloths
- never spray a cleaner directly on the surface of the display
- never use excessively damp cloths
When the liquid (water or detergent) touches the edge of yoursdisplay to clean, can easily infiltrate through the joints of the plastics. Liquid can penetrate between the different layers of the screen! The photo we show you below (it's horrible, right ?!) is an example of what could happen to yournotebook(or even your TV!) if you use an excessively wet cloth.
The chances of the liquid evaporating once it has penetrated the less superficial layers of your display are zero! There is no hairdryer that takes ... you cannot do anything to dry a small display in this way.
Other fundamental rules to be respected:
- never use a cleaner that may contain ammonia
- never use a cleaner that may contain alcohol
So, when asked:“can I use the glass cleaner to clean the smartphone or TV display? " the answer is no"!
Generally, glass cleaners contain ammonia or low concentrations of alcohol (so all scented cleaners should be avoided). These substances can ruin glossy displays "glossy ",they can cause damage to the “retina display” technology or make the anti-reflective coating of some displays ineffective.
Another very frequent mistake consists indry the displayswith terry towels, paper napkins or general purpose rags. THEdisplaythey are very delicate, especially those of the TV and notebooks. The surface of a paper towel, at the microscopic level, is abrasive enough to leave stains and light grinds on the surface of the monitor. In short, one clean after the other you risk ruining your screen.
In summary, here are the 5 things you DO NOT need to do forclean a display:
- Use scented cleansers.
- Use cleaners containing alcohol or ammonia.
- Use paper towels, terry towels, or ordinary rags to dry the display.
- Use an excessively damp cloth.
- Spray the cleaner directly onto thescreen to clean.
Having seen the things to avoid carefully undergoingcleaning the display, let's move on to practice.
How to clean displays
Let it be atouch screen (smartphone, tablet, car touch sensitive display ...) or that has plasma or LCD technology, here are the instructions to follow forto cleansafely and correctly yoursscreen.
- Turn off the device and operate only on a cold display. Not overheated! The display must be cool, especially if it's HD plasma TVs.
- Dust the screen using a spray can of compressed air. The can must always be kept in a vertical position with the air jet perpendicular to the plane of the display.
- Gently wipe the surface of the screen using a CLEAN microfiber cloth.
A wipe with a dry microfiber cloth should be sufficient, however, if this is not the case, lightly moisten the cloth withdistilled water and clean the display by making circular movements.
Avoid using tap water due to the presence of limescale.
In presence ofspots on the displayor more stubborn dirt. Moisten the cloth with a solution of 50% distilled water and 50% white wine vinegar. This solution is useful forclean displayeven from oil and grease stains (if you have eaten chips or peanut butter and have dirty the display of your notebook, this is the remedy for you!).
If in the corners of thedisplaythere is still some dust, remove it with a soft bristle brush like this:screen cleaning kit, offered on Amazon at a price of 6.95 euros and free shipping. Do not use an old or used brush as it may lose bristles or make the situation worse.
